The thousand deaths of sarah bernhardt
You're invited to a free staged reading of a new drag solo show.
The Thousand Deaths of Sarah Bernhardt follows the late 19th/early 20th century Parisian actress as she is about to embark on her first tour of the United States. Frantic to get ready, attacked by the media for her scandalous behavior (including keeping a coffin in her bedroom), and desperate to be taken seriously as an artist, Sarah brings us into her life, toying with us and reveling in her status as a diva.
With Sarah played by Manchester actor Joseph Conway, what begins as pure camp starts to break down as Sarah gets closer and closer to telling the truth after all her lies about herself, moving between tales of sex, war, and theatre. It's directed by London actor/director Biz Lyon. It's written by Lee Papa, who the New York Times called “a tornado of a writer." His most recent play was It's the End of the World as We Know It, produced at One Yellow Rabbit Theatre in Calgary in January 2020.
