THEATRE WITHOUT SIGHT OR SOUND

 

Surrender your senses as Plays Rough presents London’s first night of short plays without sight or sound. This unique theatrical experience will explore storytelling in a way never done before, limiting writers, directors and actors to create using only 4 senses. We explore the possibilities of staging provocative, engaging and exciting theatre when you remove either sight or sound.

In the Shadows by Huw Brentnall

Doctor Shelley wakes in a great, unending, silent darkness. Alone, with no memories of anything else, the Doctor waits. Then a voice calls out from the dark…

 

Two to the Chest by Gareth Ceredig

A family drama about American wrestling.

 

The Monkey’s Paw by Jack Williams and Sara Butler

A cursed paw makes a family’s wishes come true, for better or worse. An adaptation of a short story of the same name written by W.W. Jacobs.

 

A Silent Farce by Christopher Keegan 

Two people arrive home simultaneously. A comedy inspired by silent films.

 

Tick-Tock by Hew Rous-Eyre

A man in a waiting room begins to lose his mind. 

 

Quest Invisible by Rebekah King

A stork embarks on a peculiar mission to make a precious and fragile delivery.

 

 

What to expect on the night:

Once you enter you will be blindfolded. The first three plays are designed to be viewed without sight. There will then be an interval. For the second half you will be offered ear plugs. Three silent plays will be performed.

 

Who are Plays Rough London?

Since February 2016 we’ve been producing new-writing nights in theatres and alternative spaces. Our aim is to provide a stage to facilitate personal growth and the development of projects. In order to be creative we have to experiment. We are a space where you can play, take risks and fail, so that when you succeed it is spectacular not just safe! We produce four new-writing events every year. We have open applications for writers, director and actors. Keep an eye on our social media for future opportunities.
