Jekyll & Hyde Title Banner

dr jekyll and mr hyde

"How if it were all a lie? If I were like one possessed of a fiend - wearing at times another shape, vile, monstrous, hideous beyond belief?"

The ultimate story of alter ego - the wicked, insatiable actions of Dr Jekyll's "other self" play out in this atmospheric rehearsed reading of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic.

"It is Hyde now that controls Jekyll - not Jekyll, Hyde."

Adapted from Stevenson's 1886 novella Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, this stage play was written just one year after that original publication. Actor Richard Mansfield encouraged friend and playwright Thomas Russell Sullivan to pen this script for him to play the titular dualistic character; a performance vivid that some audience members were convinced that Mansfield could be none other than the infamous Jack the Ripper!

"I have slowly lost the hold upon my original, my better self"

The original Sullivan has been abridged to an hour's candlelit performance.
