THE HOLLOW CLOWN
(or a series of sad stories about the death of kings)
‘Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of kings’
On the 402nd anniversary of Shakespeare’s death I have decided to celebrate by throwing a party in aid of failed GCSE English classes. “Woo hoo!” we will all say at the sight of our glowing U’s in Shakespearean studies. That dirt-bag is no more. That scurvy companion shall not plague our shores. That poisonous bunch backed toad will be held accountable for his beautiful words... Wait a minute. Oh god help us.
Shakespeare has got himself festering inside our heads like an infectious spreading disease. Come and be purged of your blasphemous Shakespearean thoughts. And honestly who knows what will happen, some fun some a silly-oquy or five and god forbid maybe we’ll learn that Shakespeare isn’t so bad after all.
This is one idiots exploration of Shakespeare’s characters in search of understanding.
The Hollow Clown was written and devised by Brendan Roberts with some help from William Shakespeare
