the great dog, pan

BY Toby parker rees, in a production by live beasts

A Live Beasts production in association with Bristol Old Vic:

A folk horror (you’re the horror)

A shaggy dog story (you’re the shaggy dog)

A monologue (a conversation)

An interfering little man has come to see Martha about the things she’s been doing for her dog, Pan. You are the dog.

This is a one hour play about living with things – anxiety and animals in particular.

Written by Toby Parker Rees, a Royal Court Young Writer on attachment to Bristol Old Vic. Here are some nice things that have been said about his writing:

‘thrives on well-observed dialogue’ THE INDEPENDENT

‘sharp, witty and frank’ THE STAGE

‘boisterous and lyrical...both suits and challenges a pub audience’ THE SCOTSMAN

‘a reason to be cheerful’ TIM CROUCH

‘shambolic chaotic genius’ LOUISE MARI, NIGEL & LOUISE

‘beautifully conceived and touchingly delicate and nuanced’ ANDY FIELD, FOREST FRINGE

Live Beasts are an award-winning collective who’ve also done things at The Yard, Camden People’s Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. We invite audiences to form loose choruses where everybody can be as loud or quiet as they like – we believe this is the best way to avoid leaving anybody out.

Generously supported by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation.

Playing as part of the ORL's The Next Day season
