THE NOISES
A NEW PLAY BY JACQUELINE SAPHRA
DIRECTED BY TAMAR SAPHRA
‘I am Luna, new bitch.
Golden Luna, dog show winner,
no food-snatcher,
no hair-shedder,
no shit-maker,
no Them-biter.
Gold as good Luna.’
Luna’s a dog. A good dog. Nemesis of the big-dick-labradoodle, rabbit hunter, merciless protector of the human pack.
It’s a warm April night and The Noises are everywhere. Luna’s only friend, Ellie, has gone out, but Ma has locked Luna in and she’s getting restless. The night is stretching out and changing shape, strange smells are drifting through the closed door.
Beyond the door, The Noises are getting faster and louder and Luna’s beloved Ellie hasn’t come home.
What does it mean to be brave? What does it mean to be good?
Confined here together in the dark, what else do we have but each other?
-------
A mother and daughter collaboration between TS Eliot Award Shortlisted poet and playwright Jacqueline Saphra and director-dramaturg Tamar Saphra, The Noises is a visceral new play about fear, courage, the nature of violence and what we're prepared to do for the ones we love.
The Noises is performed by Amy McAllister (Scorch; Call the Midwife), with sound design from Tom Parkinson (I’m A Phoenix, Bitch; Super Duper Close Up).
Every performance has fully integrated audio description for blind and visually impaired audiences.
If you identify as blind or visually impaired and/or have access needs, you can select the ‘Access’ ticket option when purchasing your ticket to notify box office staff in advance of your attendance. If you have any particular access needs you’d like to discuss, or for any questions or for more information, email .
For every performance throughout the run, we provide:
- Integrated audio description
- An audio flyer, available HERE
- An audio venue guide, available HERE
- An extra staff member on hand to assist with any access needs
- Due to the nature of the sound design, we strongly advise that guide dogs do not go into the theatre space. A member of staff will look after them during the performance.
- A quiet space to sit upstairs by the entrance to the theatre, which will be open before the show every night from 7pm, and from 2:30pm for Saturday Matinees.
What we can’t provide is:
- Step free access
- Accessible toilets
- Captioned performances
Touch tours will take place 45 minutes before the show on Saturday matinees (6th, 13th and 20th April) at 2:15pm.
The Noises was longlisted for the 2017 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting.
This production has been generously supported by The T.S. Eliot Foundation and Arts Council England.
