m.r. james: Ghost stories

Presented by Nunkie Theatre
Performed by R M Lloyd Parry

Two shows. Four classic spine-chillers from the Master of the English Ghost Story.

M. R. James first wrote his ghost stories to perform to friends in Kings College Cambridge. Now, over a century after their first publication, Nunkie Theatre Company have bought four of the eeriest and most entertaining back to life in two gripping one-man shows.

A Warning to the Curious - Sunday 9th April 2017

Lost Hearts features one of James's most memorable villains, the predatory scholar Mr Abney. It is complemented here by A Warning to the Curious, perhaps the author’s most personal and poignant work, in which a young archaeologist is haunted and hunted by the guardian of an ancient treasure.

The English seaside has never looked so menacing…

Oh Whistle… - Monday 10th April 2017

Oh Whistle, and I’ll Come to you, My Lad – a tale of nocturnal horror on the Suffolk coast – is widely considered to be author’s masterpiece. It is beautifully complemented by The Ash Tree, a story of witchcraft and vengeance down the generations.
